The Evolution of Calpurnia Tate

The Evolution of Calpurnia Tate                                pages: 338
The Evolution of Calpurnia Tate, by Jacqueline Kelly, is a Newbery Honor Award that is about Calpurnia Tate whom lives in Austin, Texas, in 1899 with 6 brothers. Calpurnia Tate creates a close relationship with her grandfather, a scientist, while she does experiments and collects specimens with him. When her twelfth birthday comes around, her mother decides that she needs to spend less time with her grandfather, and more time cooking, and sewing. She is slacking behind in both of those subjects, but her mother pushes her forward. During the book Calpurnia learns how to live with 6 brothers, take notes of specimens, sew, and cook. This book was very interesting, and fun to read.
